So, I’m going to the American Historical Association convention in January, to search for the elusive job. My impression is that one goes forward “without hope and without fear,” putting the best foot forward and seeing what happens. Apparently it’s also very intimidating for first-timers, hence the AHA’s long and very useful list of tips for using the Job Center effectively: I would recommend the pages What Candidates Need to Know, and the video How-To Guide. I have a feeling that, like most things for me, it will make sense until I’m actually there, and have to put the theory into practice. In any case, if you, like me, are going to the AHA convention, these will be useful. Look for updates to the saga over the next thirty days!
