Hungary’s Toxic Red Sludge hits the Danube…

From NPR, an update on a disaster of which I hadn’t heard before about 30 minutes ago.  Apparently aluminium plants give off huge quantities of toxic waste?  And here, at any rate, it is kept in a resevoir, which burst, and sent millions of gallons of red sludge oozing toward the Danube River.  The picture alone gives some sense of how large this disaster is.  And, pardon my skepticism, but having just experienced the debates over the oil in the Gulf, I’m just a weeeeee bit doubtful that the pH levels are low enough to where they won’t impact flora and fauna.  Meh…
