Old news by now, but I feel that it’s worth a mention, before I go on to other things. The New York Times’ article on the mineral deposits in Afghanistan can be found here. And an article on what is being termed “graft” and “corruption” in the Afghan government, and its becoming a target of American intelligence interest. I’d be interested to see what kind of results this has, or, more to the point, what kinds of strategies are cooked up to deal with what are, as Jeremy Black was telling us earlier today, completely logical courses of action by those involved.
And finally, a somewhat depressed article on how the Human Genome Project is actually proving to be of limited medical use–at least far more limited than researchers anticipated ten years ago. Open to debate, I guess, but it’s food for thought.
